Pear Butter - Gluten and Dairy Free

Pears!  Did somebody say pears?  My parents brought me a 5 gallon bucket of pears last week, fresh from the pasture...no chemicals just beautiful pears from nature. 

First - cut out the worm holes and bad spots.  Then place them in the slow cooker with about 2 cups of water in the bottom.  Let them simmer over night or about 12 hours.



Once the pears are soft, grab your colander and wooden masher. Now go to town.. you can swirl them, stomp them, just have fun.  The yummy goodness will flow from the colander into your container.  Make sure to remove the waste every so often.  You know the stems, seeds, and skins that stay in the colander.


Clean out your slow cooker.  Add the pear mash back add 2 cups of water, 2 TBS cinnamon, 1/4 tsp all spice, 2 tsp cloves and about 2 cups sugar.  Taste it - if you want it sweeter add more sugar 1/4 cup at a time.  Simmer in the slow cooker 8 more hours.  Then put up in canning jars or freeze for winter goodness.
